User Experience Design
Project Brief
Problem:
Food wastage is a growing concern both globally and in India. A significant amount of food is wasted daily in PG accommodations and hostel messes due to the lack of systems that allow students to pre-inform about their meal consumption. Despite the scale of this issue, there has been minimal innovation in food planning, storage, or behavioral change at the institutional level.
Objective:
To design a digital product that helps minimize food wastage in hostels and PG messes by enabling students to view daily menus, confirm their meal participation in advance, and receive incentives for consistent, mindful engagement.
Idea:
The solution revolves around creating an app that helps PG messes and hostels share their daily meal menus with students. This allows students to make informed decisions and pre-select the meals they intend to consume. By doing so, the app not only helps minimize food wastage but also systemizes operations and introduces an incentive-based experience to encourage responsible participation.
Approach:
Exploring the problem statement through field research, user interviews, and system mapping. Aiming to build an incentive-based solution that not only reduces food waste but also streamlines meal planning for mess staff and encourages responsible food consumption behavior among students.
